1. How do I file a refund claim for home-hardening products?
Homeowners must apply to the Florida Department of Revenue and provide the following documentation. A signed agreement showing the taxes paid and a receipt showing the tax paid. You should also have product specifications that show the impact rating, a permit record, and proof of final inspection. The documentation is similar to what you would provide to show your insurance company to earn discounts on your homeowner’s insurance.
The owner must submit the following forms to the Florida Department of Revenue between July 1, 2026, and September 30, 2029. This can be done electronically:
Sales and Use Tax – Application for Refund (Form DR-26S)
Home Hardening Products – Sales Tax Refund (Form DR-26HH)
Copies of receipts showing payment of Florida sales tax on retail purchases of qualifying home-hardening product(s) can be uploaded to the site.Visit the Florida Department of Revenue’s Forms and Publications webpage to download the required Form found under Refunds (DR-26S online, and electronically submit a copy of Form DR-26HH and supporting documentation.
2. If a contractor purchased the qualifying home-hardening products at retail, can I still obtain a refund as the owner of the eligible residential property where the products were installed?
Yes. The owner of the eligible residential property receives the benefit of the exemption solely through a refund of previously paid tax. If a contractor made the retail purchase of the qualifying home-hardening products installed on the property, the receipt showing payment of Florida sales tax on the contractor’s retail purchase must be included with the refund application.
3. What garage doors qualify, and do they need to be under a certain price to qualify for the sales tax exemption?
The garage doors you purchase must be impact-rated and tested to qualify for the sales tax exemption. EDL only sells and installs impact rated garage doors. There is no price limit.
4. If I receive a rain check for a qualifying item Sales Tax Exemption Period, can it be used after the exemption period to purchase the item tax exempt?
No. The qualifying item must be purchased during the exemption period to be tax-exempt. When a rain check is issued, a sale has not occurred. The sale occurs when the rain check is redeemed and the item is purchased.

On December 29 I made a trip to your facility to purchase a can of garage door operator lubricant. I took the time to drive there because my past experience has told me that you market excellent products, products that work!!
When the lady brought it to the counter she informed me that you were not going to charge me. At that point there was no clue whether I had ever made a previous purchase at you Company! This simply confirms once again that EDL is an above board Company that treats people well and markets superiority!
For the records, my late wife and I did purchase our garage door and operator from your Company, I think in 2017 or maybe 2016.
Thank You for an act of kindness,

Big thanks to them and EDL.

Garage door not working, it is likely a broken spring
A broken garage door spring is one of the most common garage door repairs. Garage door springs have a life span and will eventually fail after so many open and close cycles. Typically, a garage door spring will last from 5 to 8 years and should last around 5,000 to 10,000 cycles. Some signs of a broken garage spring include; garage door goes up a few inches and stops, you hear a very loud bang in the garage (the sound of the spring breaking), the cable and pulley are hanging down and when you pull the emergency release rope, the garage door cannot be lifted. These are all signs (more…)
